“I can possess anyone, psychic,” Pan said.

“Yeah? Then you would’ve done it. You have dozens of potential victims down on that dance floor. You brought us here for a reason. You need us, both of us, otherwise you would’ve taken one of those men and grabbed me. Hell, you wouldn’t have brought us in at all, just grabbed one of those men and kidnapped me or some other girl later. You set a trap for us. You need us and you need us tonight.”

“Well, you can’t expect I’ll merely leave. I’ll get nothing out of it. He may as well die then.”

“I don’t. I want to negotiate, lay down some ground rules on what you can do with his body. Includin’ getting the hell out and into someone else as soon as you can.”

“A proper vessel isn’t easy to find, however, given a few days, I could find a replacement.”

“Good. Is there a way to magically bind you to your word? To make you stick to it once I let you have Grant?”

“You mean something along the lines of a Faustian Deal?” he asked.

“Not really, but something that holds you to it, not just your word.”

“You need to study your demonology, little girl. My word is my bond. I shall not break it.”

“Forgive me if I don’t take your word for it.”

“Are you questioning my word?”

“Of course not. I’m just sayin’… your power is too great for a human to really count on you sticking to it. I mean you’re-”

“Stop talking. You talk too much.”

“You know you aren’t the first person, or um, whatever, to say that. It never seems to shut me up though.”

I looked around. How long did I have to stall? Maybe the guys were already here and just getting into place?

Yeah, and maybe I just won the lottery and my visions suddenly came with a how-to guide.

“I talk,” I said. “It’s what I do. It’s like a compulsion. I just get going and can’t stop. I-”

“What are you plotting, little girl?” he asked, grinning wide and slow. “You’re stalling? You think you’ll be able to get out of this? You think someone’s coming to your rescue? Silly human.”

I smiled so tight it felt like I’d have to unscrew it with a monkey wrench or one of those big ones they used to get the bolts off tires to take them off.

I always smile when I get nervous but he seemed to take it as a challenge because he grinned right back, upping the creep factor by like ten.

“You have no idea who I am, little psychic.”

“My name’s Ariana. Stop calling me little girl or psychic, okay?” I put on my stubborn face. “Actually, it’s Agent Ryder. I don’t know you well enough for you to call me Ariana.”

“We’ll be getting to know each other pretty damn well very soon.”

“I don’t know,” came from behind me.

I yelped. It took everything in me to keep my eyes on the prize and not turn to look at the woman speaking.
